To change domain mode of the target domain
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Domains and Trusts.
- In the console tree, right-click the name of the domain you want to administer, and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, click Change Mode, and then click Yes.
Caution
- Do not change domain mode if you have or will have any Windows NT 4.0 domain controllers in this domain. You can only change the mode from to . Once a domain is running in native mode, it cannot be changed back to mixed mode.

- You must be connected to the domain you want to administer and logged on as an administrator or a member of the Domain Administrators group of the target domain in order to complete this procedure.
